Dr. Mary Lamonica is an Associate Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at New Mexico State University. Prior to coming to NMSU in August 2005, Lamonica worked as a professor at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, where she was tenured, and at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Her Ph.D. is from Michigan State University and her B.A. and M.A. are from the University of Miami. Her research areas are media law and media history, with an emphasis on nineteenth- and early twentieth-century media history. She publishes under the name Mary M. Cronin. Lamonica’s media work includes stints at newspapers in Miami, Florida; Asbury Park, New Jersey; and Lawrence, Massachusetts. She also has worked for a computer magazine in Florida, the first online version of the Miami Herald and for public radio in Washington State. Lamonica also freelanced to national magazines and regional newspapers.
Hwiman Chung, PhD – Professor – Department Head
Hwiman Chung earned his Ph. D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Masters at Michigan State University. He worked as an account executive at an advertising agency for 6 years and handled clients ranging from Airlines to Computer companies. His research interest is in e-commerce, with an emphasis on interactive advertising strategy. His projects have explored online consumer behavior and media usage, effectiveness of web ads, perceived intrusiveness of rich media, measuring Internet access, and the impact of sponsorship on perceived credibility of Web sites. He teaches introduction to advertising, advertising media planning, creativity and copy writing, mass communication research method, and interactive advertising courses at New Mexico State University. Dr. Chung is a member of the American Academy of Advertising (AAA) and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication ( AEJMC).
