Operation Plan

Fall 2020 Operation Plan

In light of the current spread of COVID-19, the Department of Journalism and Media Studies has taken measures to comply with state mandates from the New Mexico Department of Health and Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, as well as NMSU systemwide guidance and directives.

This page provides information on how the J&MS department will handle operations during the Fall 2020 semester. For more general guidance and campus wide resources, please visit our COVID-19 information page

    1. The J&MS department office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, Aug. 3. If you have any question or concerns — anything at all — please contact the J&MS main office at 575-646-1034, 575-646-4403 or 575-646-7674, or simply email Dr. Hwiman Chung or Ms. Barbara Franco.
    2. All visitors to the departmental office are REQUIRED TO WEAR A FACE MASK in order to protect visitors and NMSU employees. There are no exceptions to this rule.
    3. Students need to communicate directly with their instructors regarding course specifics. Also, faculty will communicate with students regarding class schedules, Zoom meeting times, face-to-face meetings (if applicable), special meetings, etc. Please contact faculty members directly for detailed class instructions.
    4. Most “hybrid” format classes will have special meeting schedules, so students are required to communicate directly with faculty to ensure they remain in the loop and understand exactly what’s expected of them.
    5. Computer labs 157, 154 and 154A will be open and available to students on a limited basis. Please contact the department office if you need any specific support regarding use of the computer labs.
    6. All students attending face-to-face classroom and lab meetings are REQUIRED TO WEAR A FACE MASK AT ALL TIMES WHILE INSIDE THE BUILDING. Students should also wash and/or sanitize their hands immediately before or upon entering any classroom or lab.
    7. Department staff will sanitize all classroom and lab work surfaces, computer keyboards, etc., after each class meeting.
