Biography

Dr. Jeff Hunter is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at New Mexico State University. He has a Ph.D. and M.A in media and communication from Texas Tech University. He has a B.A. in communication from Harding University. His research focuses on political communication and communication in rural areas. Having grown up in a tiny agricultural community, he particularly enjoys making interdisciplinary connections to conduct research and provide resources to improve life in rural areas. He teaches strategic communication by providing experiential learning opportunities for students. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Hunter spent 15 years working in strategic communication in fields like health care, personal finance, and politics. He has served large media companies and small non-profits alike as a communication consultant.
