Biography

Mary Lamonica is a professor in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at New Mexico State University. Prior to coming to NMSU in August 2005, Dr. Lamonica worked as a professor at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, where she was tenured, and at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Her Ph.D. is from Michigan State University and her B.A. and M.A. are from the University of Miami. Her research areas are media law and media history, with an emphasis on nineteenth- and early twentieth-century media history. She publishes under the name Mary M. Cronin. Dr. Lamonica's media work includes stints at newspapers in Miami, Florida; Asbury Park, New Jersey; and Lawrence, Massachusetts. She also worked for a computer magazine in Florida, the first online version of the Miami Herald, and for public radio in Washington State. Lamonica has also freelanced for national magazines and regional newspapers. She has a wonderful daughter, a broadcaster husband, and several pets from the shelter. A life-long Red Sox fan, she will never support the New York Yankees.
