Journalism professor selected to attend Dow Jones academy

NMSU College Assistant Professor Darren Phillips was one of 12 journalism educators selected from a nationwide applicant pool to attend the 2018 Dow Jones Multimedia Training Academy this summer.

The academy provides hands-on digital multimedia training for college instructors from Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). Sponsored by the Dow Jones News Fund and hosted by the University of Texas at El Paso, the training is designed to better equip college instructors to help aspiring student journalists develop modern, competitive skills.

During the intensive one-week workshop, professors will go out on assignments to create multimedia news packages including mobile news apps, podcasts, videos and photography. The goal is for professors to update their curricula and transfer their newly-acquired skills to their students, making them more competitive for journalism internships, fellowships and jobs.
