The Department of Journalism and Media Studies offers a full sequence of photojournalism courses that incorporates the tools and concepts of visual journalism by utilizing still photography, writing, slideshows and more.
We emphasize visual literacy as well as strong technical and storytelling skills. We encourage students to report on their communities and, as they gain confidence, the world at large.
Our program is driven by the idea that images and words are natural allies and to use them both with a high degree of precision and skill is a process that requires learning the language of vision. Using this language greatly enhances any publication’s goal of providing clear, readable and relevant news and information.
